Plywood Market Size in Greece

In 2020, the Greek plywood market decreased by -X% to $X, falling for the second consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, consumption recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The Netherlands (X cubic meters), Italy (X cubic meters) and Albania (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of plywood exports from Greece, with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Albania, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Italy ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for plywood exported from Greece worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports. Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Albania ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2020, overseas purchases of plywood decreased by -X% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports saw a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, plywood imports dropped to $X in 2020. In general, imports saw a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In 2020, Russia (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of plywood to Greece, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, plywood imports from Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Romania (X cubic meters), threefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by China (X cubic meters), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Russia totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Romania (+X% per year) and China (-X% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Bulgaria ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
