Cassava Market Size in Europe

For the sixth consecutive year, the Europe cassava market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2023. The total consumption indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, consumption increased by X% against 2012 indices. The level of consumption peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Cassava Production in Europe

In value terms, cassava production contracted slightly to $X in 2023 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2023, production growth remained at a lower figure.

The Netherlands (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of cassava production, comprising approx. X% of total volume. Moreover, cassava production in the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Belgium (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume in the Netherlands was relatively modest.

Cassava Exports

Exports in Europe

After four years of growth, shipments abroad of cassava decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2022, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, cassava exports stood at $X in 2023. In general, exports, however, showed a buoyant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2023 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands prevails in exports structure, recording X tons, which was near X% of total exports in 2023. It was distantly followed by Belgium (X tons) and Spain (X tons), together committing an X% share of total exports. The following exporters - France (X tons) and Italy (X tons) - together made up X% of total exports.

Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Spain (X%), France (X%) and Belgium (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Spain emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. By contrast, Italy (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Spain (X p.p.) and France (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2023, the share of Italy (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

From 2012 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Europe

After eight years of growth, purchases abroad of cassava decreased by X% to X tons in 2023. In general, imports, however, posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by X%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2022, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, cassava imports expanded sharply to $X in 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed strong growth. Imports by Country

In 2023, the Netherlands (X tons) represented the largest importer of cassava, mixing up X% of total imports. Spain (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by France (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Belgium (X tons). All these countries together took approx. X% share of total imports.
