In 2021, Italy (X units) was the major exporter of non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles, committing 54% of total exports. France (X units) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by the Netherlands (13%). Germany (X units), Sweden (X units), Denmark (X units) and Spain (X units) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Italy amounted to +4.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (-2.7% per year) and France (-5.9% per year).

The export price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, which is down by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The countries with the highest levels of spectacle non-plastic frame imports in 2021 were Italy (X units), France (X units), the Netherlands (X units), Germany (X units) and Spain (X units), together recording 77% of total import. Denmark (X units), Belgium (X units), Poland (X units), Sweden (X units), Hungary (X units), Austria (X units) and Portugal (X units) took a little share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +13.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 56% of total imports. The Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Austria, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Hungary and Portugal lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Hungary, with a CAGR of +19.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the European Union stood at $X per unit in 2021, rising by 3.4% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the Netherlands ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+11.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
