In 2022, the East European printing ink market increased by X% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, consumption showed a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, the amount of printing ink exported in Eastern Europe contracted modestly to X tons, approximately mirroring the previous year. Total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of X% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by X% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, printing ink exports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by X%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Poland represented the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at X% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) held a X% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Lithuania (X%), Hungary (X%), Russia (X%) and Ukraine (X%). The following exporters - the Czech Republic (X tons) and Latvia (X tons) - each amounted to a X% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to printing ink exports from Poland stood at X%. At the same time, Russia (X%), Ukraine (X%), Belarus (X%) and Latvia (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2022. The Czech Republic and Hungary experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Lithuania (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Poland (X p.p.), Russia (X p.p.) and Ukraine (X p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Hungary (X p.p.) and Lithuania (X p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Poland amounted to X%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (X% per year) and Lithuania (X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

In 2022, printing ink imports in Eastern Europe contracted modestly to X tons, with a decrease of X% on 2021 figures. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. Poland (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented the major importers of printing ink in 2022, finishing at approx. X% and X% of total imports, respectively. The Czech Republic (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a X% share, followed by Hungary (X%), Slovakia (X%) and Romania (X%). Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
