After two years of decline, shipments abroad of domestic appliances increased by 12% to X units in 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, domestic appliances exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +73.2% against 2015 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Poland was the largest exporter of domestic appliances in Eastern Europe, with the volume of exports accounting for X units, which was approx. 47% of total exports in 2021. Romania (X units) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Russia (X units), Slovakia (X units), the Czech Republic (X units) and Hungary (X units). All these countries together took near 45% share of total exports. Belarus (X units) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to domestic appliances exports from Poland stood at +5.0%. At the same time, Russia (+14.0%), Romania (+5.9%), the Czech Republic (+2.9%), Slovakia (+2.7%), Hungary (+2.4%) and Belarus (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Russia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Eastern Europe, with a CAGR of +14.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia increased by +4.4 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the largest domestic appliances supplier in Eastern Europe, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 9.3% share.

In Poland, domestic appliances exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Romania (+13.1% per year) and the Czech Republic (+5.5% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 8.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the export price increased by 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per unit), while Romania ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+6.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in Eastern Europe

Domestic appliances imports totaled X units in 2021, surging by 11% compared with 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, domestic appliances imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +113.4% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X units) and Poland (X units) represented the major importers of domestic appliances in Eastern Europe, together reaching near 46% of total imports. Romania (X units) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Hungary (X units), the Czech Republic (X units), Ukraine (X units) and Slovakia (X units). All these countries together took near 42% share of total imports. Belarus (X units) held a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +9.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest domestic appliances importing markets in Eastern Europe were Russia ($X), Poland ($X) and the Czech Republic ($X), together accounting for 61% of total imports. Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and Belarus lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.

Among the main importing countries, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +12.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Eastern Europe stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 14% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
