In value terms, sulphur exports fell sharply to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

South Korea was the key exporter of sulphur (sublimed or precipitated) and colloidal sulphur in Eastern Asia, with the volume of exports recording X tonnes, which was near X% of total exports in 2020. It was distantly followed by China (X tonnes) and Japan (X tonnes), together achieving a X% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tonnes) occupied a little share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in South Korea, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline in the exports figures.

Over the period under review, imports recorded a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tonnes in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, sulphur imports declined notably to $X in 2020. In general, imports showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. The level of import peaked at $X in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Japan was the key importing country with an import of about X tonnes, which recorded X% of total imports. South Korea (X tonnes) took a X% share (based on tonnes) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by China (X%) and Democratic People's Republic of Korea (X%).
