In 2023, the ASEAN woolen yarn market decreased by X% to $X for the first time since 2020, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption showed a mild slump. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, woolen yarn exports stood at $X in 2023. In general, exports posted strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of X%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2023, Thailand (X tons) represented the key exporter of yarn of wool, constituting X% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Vietnam (X tons), generating a X% share of total exports. Malaysia (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Thailand was also the fastest-growing in terms of the yarn of wool exports, with a CAGR of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Vietnam (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. The export price in ASEAN stood at $X per ton in 2023, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The following importers - Indonesia (X tons), Malaysia (X tons), Myanmar (X tons) and the Philippines (X tons) - together made up X% of total imports.

Imports into Vietnam increased at an average annual rate of X% from 2012 to 2023. At the same time, Myanmar (X%), Cambodia (X%) and the Philippines (X%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Myanmar emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in ASEAN, with a CAGR of X% from 2012-2023. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Malaysia (X%) and Thailand (X%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Vietnam (X p.p.), Cambodia (X p.p.) and Myanmar (X p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand saw its share reduced by X%, X% and X% from 2012 to 2023, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
