Wood Preservation Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average wood preservation export price stood at $869 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 4.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 15% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,096 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to December 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,324 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($414 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wood Preservation Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average wood preservation import price stood at $1,887 per ton in December 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 39% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,432 per ton. From February 2023 to December 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($3,101 per ton), while the price for China ($204 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Wood Preservation Exports in the United States
In 2022, overseas shipments of wood preservation decreased by 0% to less than 0.1 kg for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The smallest decline of 99.9% was in 2020.
In value terms, wood preservation exports expanded significantly to $334M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In value terms, wood preservation imports skyrocketed to $127M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +64.6% against 2019 indices.
