Tallow Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
In January 2022, the average tallow import price amounted to $1,847 per ton, waning by -8.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible expansion from January 2021 to January 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on January 2022 figures, tallow import price decreased by -8.8% against October 2021 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2021 when the average import price increased by 16% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $2,025 per ton in October 2021; however, from November 2021 to January 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Uruguay ($1,993 per ton) and Belarus ($1,897 per ton), while the price for Paraguay ($1,640 per ton) and Argentina ($1,809 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tallow Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
In January 2022, the average tallow export price amounted to $3,844 per ton, which is down by -20.3% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2021 an increase of 59% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $4,820 per ton in December 2021, and then fell markedly in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($5,686 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uzbekistan ($1,280 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (+12.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Tallow Imports in Russia
In 2022, supplies from abroad of tallow was finally on the rise to reach 12K tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a deep downturn.
In value terms, tallow imports dropped to $15M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 37%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $17M, and then declined in the following year.

Tallow Exports in Russia
In 2022, overseas shipments of tallow decreased by -0.6% to 498 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 535 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tallow exports contracted modestly to $450K in 2022. In general, exports saw a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 1.5%.
