Which Country Imports the Most Tallow in the World?

Global tallow imports amounted to 1,320 thousand tonnes in 2015, coming down by -1.4% against the previous year level. Overall, the global tallow imports indicated a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume decreased at an average annual rate of -6.0% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +9% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global tallow imports attained its maximum volume of 2,180 thousand tonnes in 2008. From 2009 to 2015, the total tallow imports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global tallow imports amounted to $860 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global tallow imports decreased substantially from 2007 to 2015, curtailing at an average annual rate of -6.2%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Tallow Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the tallow imports in absolute volumes was Mexico (326 thousand tonnes), accounting for 25% of global imports. It was followed by China (157 thousand tonnes), with a share of 12% of global imports. Moreover, tallow imports in Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, China (157 thousand tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Belgium with a share of 10%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of tallow imports in Mexico stood at -3.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: China (-10.0% per year) and Belgium (+1.7% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of imports of tallow in absolute volumes was Mexico (224 million USD), making up 26% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China (99 million USD), with a share of 12% of global imports. Moreover, tallow imports in Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, China (99 million USD), twofold. It was followed by Belgium with a share of 9%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of tallow imports in Mexico was at -3.1%. The remaining importing countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: China (-10.6% per year) and Belgium (+1.0% per year).
