Sulphates; of Magnesium Price in Ukraine (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average sulphates; of magnesium import price amounted to $302 per ton, dropping by -5.2% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2023 an increase of 22% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,741 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($320 per ton), while the price for China ($268 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Sulphates; of Magnesium Price in Ukraine (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sulphates; of magnesium export price amounted to $374 per ton, shrinking by -5.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 294% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,721 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Moldova.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Moldova amounted to -11.2% per year.
Sulphates; of Magnesium Imports in Ukraine
After three years of growth, overseas purchases of sulphates; of magnesia decreased by -13.2% to 75K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +41.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 36%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 86K tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, sulphates; of magnesium imports fell notably to $14M in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 71% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $17M, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In 2022, approx. 55 tons of sulphates; of magnesia were exported from Ukraine; which is down by -32.9% against 2021 figures. In general, exports saw a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 192% against the previous year.
In value terms, sulphates; of magnesium exports reduced dramatically to $20K in 2022. Overall, exports saw a significant contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 270%.
