By contrast, Slovenia (-1.3%), the Netherlands (-2.4%), Germany (-2.9%) and Indonesia (-2.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Turkey (+10 p.p.), China (+4.3 p.p.), Sweden (+2.1 p.p.) and Malaysia (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the largest barium or aluminium sulphates supplier worldwide, comprising 48% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Turkey ($X), with a 5.3% share of global exports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in China amounted to +6.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Turkey (+27.5% per year) and Sweden (+2.4% per year).

Austria (X tons), the United States (X tons), India (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons), Singapore (X tons), Italy (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons), Germany (X tons), Morocco (X tons), the UK (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Japan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Morocco (with a CAGR of +39.0%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the UK ($X), the United States ($X) and India ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 25% of global imports. Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Morocco, Sweden, Hong Kong SAR and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
Morocco, with a CAGR of +25.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average barium or aluminium sulphates import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 23% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while Singapore ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
