Barium or aluminium sulphates exports from Ukraine contracted dramatically to X tons in 2021, which is down by -20.9% on 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports showed a sharp descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, barium or aluminium sulphates exports contracted rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Latvia (X tons) was the main destination for barium or aluminium sulphates exports from Ukraine, with a 95% share of total exports. Moreover, barium or aluminium sulphates exports to Latvia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Moldova (X tons), more than tenfold. Belarus (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 0.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Latvia totaled -3.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (-47.8% per year) and Belarus (-57.7% per year).
In value terms, Latvia ($X), Moldova ($X) and Georgia ($X) constituted the largest markets for barium or aluminium sulphates exported from Ukraine worldwide, with a combined 99% share of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Latvia, with a CAGR of -3.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
The average barium or aluminium sulphates export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 71% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Latvia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Moldova (+43.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Sulphates Of Barium Or Aluminium
Imports into Ukraine
In 2021, the amount of sulphates of barium or aluminium imported into Ukraine rose remarkably to X tons, increasing by 14% compared with the previous year's figure. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -2.6% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, barium or aluminium sulphates imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 87% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Belarus (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of barium or aluminium sulphates to Ukraine, with a 85% share of total imports. Moreover, barium or aluminium sulphates imports from Belarus exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), more than tenfold. Turkey (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Belarus amounted to +3.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+22.4% per year) and Turkey (+55.4% per year).
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sulphates of barium or aluminium to Ukraine, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Turkey, with a 3.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Belarus stood at +9.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+20.2% per year) and Turkey (+61.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average barium or aluminium sulphates import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 4.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, barium or aluminium sulphates import price increased by +91.7% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
