Sugar Crop Price in Germany (FOB) - 2022
The average sugar crop export price stood at $54 per ton in 2022, dropping by -4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 62% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $154 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($69 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands amounted to $12 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Switzerland (-4.6%).
Sugar Crop Price in Germany (CIF) - 2022
The average sugar crop import price stood at $932 per ton in 2022, declining by -16.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 308%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,117 per ton in 2021, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,374 per ton), while the price for Spain ($498 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+22.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sugar Crop Exports in Germany
For the fourth consecutive year, Germany recorded growth in overseas shipments of sugar crops, which increased by 3.1% to 421K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, sugar crop exports contracted to $23M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 25%.

Sugar Crop Imports in Germany
After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of sugar crops increased by 23% to 4.3K tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, faced a dramatic curtailment.
In value terms, sugar crop imports totaled $4M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.1% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
