In December 2021, the average import price for copper plates, sheets and strips amounted to $12,074 per ton, jumping by 24% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2021 when the average import price increased by 33% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in December 2021.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices from Germany ($13,983 per ton) and Singapore ($13,233 per ton), while the price for Thailand ($10,198 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($10,688 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+10.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In December 2021, the average export price for copper plates, sheets and strips amounted to $11,662 per ton, growing by 13% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2021 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $13,336 per ton. From November 2021 to December 2021, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Singapore ($12,400 per ton) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($12,084 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Philippines ($9,609 per ton) and Indonesia ($9,981 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+19.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Imports of Copper Plates, Sheets and Strip in Malaysia
Copper plates, sheets and strip imports into Malaysia reduced to 31K tons in 2022, with a decrease of -13.4% compared with the previous year's figure.
