Spice Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average spice import price amounted to $2,211 per ton, reducing by -24.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,133 per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($5,882 per ton), while the price for Peru ($1,312 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+7.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022
The average spice export price stood at $865 per ton in 2022, waning by -6.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $3,742 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($1,542 per ton), while the average price for exports to Egypt ($411 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Imports in Russia
In 2022, approx. 51K tons of spices were imported into Russia; jumping by 21% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, spice imports shrank to $113M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year.

Spice Exports in Russia
In 2022, shipments abroad of spices decreased by -1.8% to 56K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +18.4% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +65.9% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 60% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 57K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, spice exports declined to $48M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +56.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $52M, and then fell in the following year.
