Spice Price in Kuwait (CIF) - 2022
The average spice import price stood at $3,702 per ton in 2022, rising by 14% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, spice import price decreased by -3.0% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 20%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,817 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($18,428 per ton), while the price for China ($1,176 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Price in Kuwait (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average spice export price amounted to $6,864 per ton, with an increase of 25% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed a resilient expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($12,249 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iraq ($449 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Spice Imports in Kuwait
In 2022, purchases abroad of spices decreased by -7.5% to 18K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 22K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, spice imports reached $66M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 32% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $83M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Spice Exports in Kuwait
In 2022, shipments abroad of spices decreased by -73.1% to 274 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 301%.
In value terms, spice exports declined remarkably to $1.9M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 321%.
