Sorghum Price in Ghana (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average sorghum import price amounted to $432 per ton, surging by 16% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, sorghum import price decreased by -20.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 43%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $546 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for India.
From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Cote d'Ivoire amounted to +140.9% per year.
Sorghum Price in Ghana (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average sorghum export price amounted to $834 per ton, picking up by 6.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price posted a perceptible expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by 110% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $1,859 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($2,500 per ton), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso ($667 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+11.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sorghum Imports in Ghana
In 2022, overseas purchases of sorghum increased by 12% to 119 tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, saw a deep slump.
In value terms, sorghum imports skyrocketed to $51K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt slump.
