Which Country Exports the Most Sorghum in the World?

Global sorghum exports amounted to 13,161 thousand tonnes in 2015, picking up by +74.6% against the previous year level. Overall, the global sorghum exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015, when the output figure increased by +75% from the previous year level. In that year, the global sorghum exports reached its maximum volume, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $3,079 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +10.1%. This trend pattern, however, fluctuated wildly throughout the analyzed period.

Sorghum Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the sorghum exports in absolute volumes was the United States (9,798 thousand tonnes), accounting for 74% of global exports. It was followed by Australia (1,532 thousand tonnes), with a share of 12% of global exports. Moreover, sorghum exports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest exporter, Australia, sixfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Argentina with a share of 8%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of sorghum exports in the United States stood at +7.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Australia (+70.3% per year) and Argentina (-0.3% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of exports of sorghum in absolute volumes was the United States (2,312 million USD), making up 75% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Australia (412 million USD), with a share of 13% of global exports. Moreover, sorghum exports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Australia (412 million USD), sixfold. It was followed by Argentina with a share of 5%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of sorghum exports in the United States was at +10.3%. The remaining exporting countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: Australia (+71.9% per year) and Argentina (+1.7% per year).
