In 2022, production of chilies and peppers (green) decreased by -13.8% to 26K tons, falling for the second year in a row after four years of growth. Overall, production recorded a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 19%. As a result, production attained the peak volume of 38K tons. From 2021 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum. Chili and pepper output in France indicated a pronounced downturn, which was largely conditioned by a pronounced descent of the harvested area and a deep contraction in yield figures.
In value terms, chili and pepper production rose remarkably to $54M in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Chili and pepper production peaked at $57M in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
