Cassava Production in China - 2022

Cassava production in China reached 5M tons in 2022, stabilizing at 2021. Over the period under review, production saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 1.1% against the previous year. Cassava production peaked at 5.1M tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure. Cassava output in China indicated a relatively flat trend pattern, which was largely conditioned by a relatively flat trend pattern of the harvested area and a relatively flat trend pattern in yield figures.

In value terms, cassava production declined notably to $4.7B in 2022 estimated in export price. In general, production enjoyed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the production volume increased by 436% against the previous year. Cassava production peaked at $14.4B in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, the average yield of cassava in China was estimated at 17 tons per ha, remaining constant against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, the yield continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average cassava yield hit record highs at 17 tons per ha in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the yield remained at a lower figure.
