The average export price for wine; still, in containers holding more than 2 litreses stood at $2.8 per litre in January 2024, remaining constant against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 when the average export price increased by 6.8% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $3.2 per litre in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to January 2024, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In January 2024, the highest price was recorded for prices to Germany ($2.9 per litre) and the UK ($2.9 per litre), while the average price for exports to the United States ($2.7 per litre) and Australia ($2.8 per litre) were amongst the lowest.

From January 2023 to January 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+0.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1.1 per litre in 2012; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 138M litres. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +10.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
