In 2022, the average import price for tubes, pipes and hollow profiles, of cast iron amounted to $1,272 per ton, dropping by -18.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,001 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($2,820 per ton), while the price for India ($1,101 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, the average export price for tubes, pipes and hollow profiles, of cast iron amounted to $2,067 per ton, shrinking by -35% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 186%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $4,075 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($3,505 per ton), while the average price for exports to India ($1,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Seychelles (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports faced a sharp decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 9.8%.

For the third consecutive year, Sri Lanka recorded decline in overseas shipments of tubes, pipes and hollow profiles, of cast iron, which decreased by -65.6% to 5.1 tons in 2022. In general, exports faced a dramatic shrinkage. The smallest decline of -21.2% was in 2021.
In value terms, exports of tubes, pipes and hollow profiles, of cast iron fell rapidly to $9.6K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a sharp setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 22%.
