The average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $125 per ton in 2022, waning by -80.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 372%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,282 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($3,231 per ton), while the average price for exports to Uganda ($91 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Burundi (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, import price attained the peak level of $667 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($684 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($304 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+0.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
