In October 2023, the average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $1,316 per ton, rising by 2.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated modest growth from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds increased by +48.7% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 34% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,430 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($1,546 per ton), while the price for Turkey totaled $366 per ton.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $290 per ton, with a decrease of -88.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 123% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $2,469 per ton in August 2023; however, from September 2023 to October 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($1,629 per ton), while the average price for exports to Bosnia and Herzegovina ($245 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Latvia (+15.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, imports recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 15%.
In value terms, imports of onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds contracted notably to $16M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 25%.
