The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $856 per ton in December 2023, picking up by 16% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a pronounced increase from January 2023 to December 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1% over the last eleven-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2023 figures, import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds increased by +75.1% against April 2023 indices. The export price peaked in December 2023.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Africa ($1,416 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($728 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
