The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $654 per ton in October 2023, waning by -8.6% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 an increase of 74% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,471 per ton. From April 2023 to October 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($1,864 per ton), while the price for Estonia ($372 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In October 2023, the average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $679 per ton, with an increase of 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated modest growth from October 2022 to October 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2023 figures, export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds decreased by -42.3% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 33% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $1,178 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to October 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Estonia ($762 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($355 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
