In December 2022, the average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $855 per ton, with an increase of 2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.7%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2022 an increase of 76% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $921 per ton in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to December 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($1,866 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($703 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+24.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($1,200 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia stood at $217 per ton.
From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+20.7%).
