In 2022, the average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $1,405 per ton, increasing by 20% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds increased by +41.1% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 32%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,473 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,548 per ton), while the price for Peru ($552 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The export price peaked at $489 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Colombia ($1,191 per ton), while the average price for exports to Nicaragua ($187 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guatemala (+16.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
