The average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $1,245 per ton in December 2023, surging by 11% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2023 when the average import price increased by 11% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,350 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to December 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was China ($2,270 per ton), while the price for the United States ($858 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
