In 2022, the average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $308 per ton, which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds decreased by -38.8% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 18%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,871 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,444 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($158 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (-9.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

As a result, imports reached the peak of 790K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
