The average export price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds stood at $268 per ton in 2022, with a decrease of -8.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $470 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($479 per ton), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($190 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average import price for onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds amounted to $1,004 per ton, rising by 129% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 251%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,248 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($1,300 per ton), while the price for Russia ($407 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+30.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the third year in a row, Azerbaijan recorded decline in overseas shipments of onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds, which decreased by -5.8% to 13K tons in 2022. In general, exports saw a precipitous decline.

In value terms, exports of onions, shallots, garlic, leeks and other alliaceous vegetables; fresh or chilleds contracted to $3.5M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a precipitous descent. The smallest decline of -13.3% was in 2021.

In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 323%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $7.8M.
