Price for Non-Woven Glass Fibre Articles in South Africa (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average non-woven glass fibre articles import price amounted to $2,951 per ton, with a decrease of -14.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 27%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $3,829 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($9,155 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($1,233 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average non-woven glass fibre articles export price stood at $2,894 per ton in 2022, growing by 6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 25% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $3,944 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($14,562 per ton), while the average price for exports to Zambia ($1,543 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+9.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports of Non-Woven Glass Fibre Articles in South Africa

In 2022, the amount of non-woven glass fibre webs, felts, mattresses and boards imported into South Africa soared to 1.8K tons, rising by 17% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible contraction.

In value terms, non-woven glass fibre articles imports fell slightly to $5.4M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 1.2%.

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of non-woven glass fibre webs, felts, mattresses and boards decreased by -12.6% to 576 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +34.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 660 tons, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, non-woven glass fibre articles exports contracted to $1.7M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +64.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 51% against the previous year.
