Price for Non-Mineral or Non-Aerated Water in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022

The average non-mineral or non-aerated water export price stood at $0.5 per litre in 2022, growing by 6.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 136%. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Maldives ($0.4 per litre), while the average price for exports to Canada ($0.4 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (+175.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average non-mineral or non-aerated water import price stood at $1.5 per litre in 2022, increasing by 6.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a resilient expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average import price increased by 59% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $1.5 per litre in 2016; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($30 per litre), while the price for India ($2.5 per litre) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United Arab Emirates (+78.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Non-Mineral or Non-Aerated Water in Sri Lanka

In 2022, overseas shipments of non-mineral or non-aerated waters decreased by -45.9% to 167K litres, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports faced a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 195% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 872K litres. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water exports dropped significantly to $78K in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 139% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $161K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 1.3% against the previous year. Imports peaked at 57K litres in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-mineral or non-aerated water imports fell to $2.2K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 34% against the previous year.
