Price for Human and Animal Blood in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average human and animal blood export price stood at $150K per ton in August 2023, which is down by -12.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 34% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $172K per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was the UK ($309K per ton), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($14,881 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average human and animal blood import price stood at $426,665 per ton in 2022, picking up by 2.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 44%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,197,260 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($2,644,511 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($56,882 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+19.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Human and Animal Blood in the United States

In 2022, shipments abroad of human blood and animal blood prepared for therapeutic, pophylactic or diagnostic uses decreased by -54.7% to 12K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 34% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 26K tons, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, human and animal blood exports dropped significantly to $1.7B in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 49%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $3.2B, and then plummeted in the following year.
