Global trade in antisera and other blood fractions reached the highest level ever, totalling near $182B in 2020. The U.S., Germany, China, Spain, the UK and South Korea top the world's largest antisera exporter ranking, comprising 67% of the total shipments. More than half of antisera imports are supplied to Germany, the U.S., Austria, Spain, Italy, China and Switzerland.
Global Exports of Antisera and Other Blood Fractions
Antisera exports surged from $153.4B to $181.9B (IndexBox estimates). In physical terms, overseas shipments of antisera and other blood fractions increased by +7.8% y-o-y to 229K tonnes in 2020.
The U.S. (51K tonnes), distantly followed by Germany (29K tonnes), China (25K tonnes), Spain (18K tonnes), the UK (17K tonnes) and South Korea (15K tonnes) were the key exporters of antisera and other blood fractions, comprising 67% of total shipments. The following exporters - Argentina (9.6K tonnes), Austria (9.4K tonnes), France (6.5K tonnes), Switzerland (5.6K tonnes), Canada (5.6K tonnes), Italy (5.1K tonnes) and Turkey (4.8K tonnes) - together made up 20% of total exports.
In value terms, Switzerland ($39.3B), Germany ($31.4B) and the U.S. ($21.7B) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2020, accounting for 51% of global exports. These countries were followed by Italy, South Korea, Austria, China, the UK, France, Spain, Turkey, Canada and Argentina, which together accounted for a further 15%.
World's Largest Importers of Antisera and Other Blood Fractions
In 2020, Germany (21K tonnes), followed by the U.S. (13K tonnes), Austria (12K tonnes), Spain (9.7K tonnes), Italy (9.6K tonnes), China (9K tonnes) and Switzerland (8.1K tonnes) were the leading importers of antisera and other blood fractions, achieving 53% of total imports. France (6.3K tonnes), Russia (5.9K tonnes), the Netherlands (5.4K tonnes), Belgium (5.3K tonnes), Ireland (5.1K tonnes) and Japan (4.7K tonnes) comprised little shares of the total imports.
In value terms, the largest antisera importing markets worldwide were the U.S. ($40.8B), Germany ($26.1B) and Switzerland ($12.2B), with a combined 45% share of global imports. These countries were followed by Japan, China, Belgium, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Austria, Ireland and Russia, which together accounted for a further 33%.
