The average import price for glass fibres (including glass wool) and articles thereof (eg yarn, woven fabrics) stood at $2,352 per ton in 2022, rising by 2.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 191%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $9,645 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($6,097 per ton), while the price for Slovenia ($1,064 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average export price for glass fibres (including glass wool) and articles thereof (eg yarn, woven fabrics) amounted to $3,979 per ton, surging by 15% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 461%. The export price peaked at $34,393 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($12,204 per ton), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($2,472 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+18.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth year in a row, Hungary recorded growth in overseas purchases of glass fibres (including glass wool) and articles thereof (eg yarn, woven fabrics), which increased by 14% to 68K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 188%. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, imports of glass fibres (including glass wool) and articles thereof (eg yarn, woven fabrics) surged to $159M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +19.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +74.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 475% against the previous year.

In value terms, exports of glass fibres (including glass wool) and articles thereof (eg yarn, woven fabrics) expanded sharply to $83M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated a significant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +20.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +72.6% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
