Price for Frozen, Dried and Smoked Fish in New Zealand (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average export price for frozen, dried and smoked fish amounted to $3,489 per ton, surging by 6.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($17,125 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cote d'Ivoire ($823 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+6.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for frozen, dried and smoked fish stood at $8,783 per ton in 2022, rising by 5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen, dried and smoked fish import price increased by +26.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 27% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($18,865 per ton), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($4,674 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+24.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Exports of Frozen, Dried and Smoked Fish in New Zealand

In 2022, approx. 140K tons of frozen, dried and smoked fish were exported from New Zealand; with a decrease of -13.7% compared with 2021. Overall, exports showed a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 9.9% against the previous year.

In value terms, frozen, dried and smoked fish exports reduced to $489M in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a mild decline.
