Price for Fresh or Chilled Lamb Carcasses and Half-Carcasses in Kenya (FOB) - 2022

In December 2021, the average export price for fresh or chilled lamb carcasses and half-carcasseses amounted to $4,428 per ton, surging by 11% against the previous month. In general, export price indicated modest growth from January 2021 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last eleven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, export price for fresh or chilled lamb carcasses and half-carcasseses increased by +9.8% against September 2021 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2021 an increase of 48% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in December 2021.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($4,967 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($2,501 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2021 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the fourth consecutive year, Kenya recorded growth in shipments abroad of fresh or chilled lamb carcasses and half-carcasseses, which increased by 82% to 4.4K tons in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 517% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports of reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, exports of fresh or chilled lamb carcasses and half-carcasseses surged to $16M in 2022. In general, exports recorded significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 582% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
