In December 2023, the average import price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses amounted to $1,348 per ton, reducing by -25.1% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2023 an increase of 34% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $2,624 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to December 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2023, the country with the highest price was Paraguay ($2,729 per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($497 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2022 to December 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bulgaria (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average export price for buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses stood at $419 per ton in 2022, which is down by -19.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 586% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,116 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($656 per ton), while the average price for exports to French Polynesia ($36 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of buckwheat, millet and canary seed; other cerealses decreased by -1.3% to 4.3K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. As a result, imports attained the peak of 9.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports of remained at a somewhat lower figure.
