Quinoa Price in Australia Slips Back to $2.1K per Ton, After a Notable Growth in Q1

Australia Quinoa Import Price per Ton in July 2022

In July 2022, the quinoa price per ton amounted to $2.1K (CIF, Australia), reducing by -4.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 15% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2.4K per ton. From March 2022 to July 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2022, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($2.2K per ton), while the price for Peru totaled $2.1K per ton.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Peru (+0.9%).

Australia Quinoa Imports

Quinoa imports into Australia declined rapidly to 119 tons in July 2022, reducing by -51% on June 2022 figures. Overall, imports recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when imports increased by 61% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 278 tons. From June 2022 to July 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, quinoa imports fell rapidly to $254K (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 with an increase of 53% month-to-month.

Australia Quinoa Imports by Country

Peru (60 tons) and Bolivia (59 tons) were the main suppliers of quinoa imports to Australia.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of 0.0%).

In value terms, Bolivia ($129K) and Peru ($125K) were the largest quinoa suppliers to Australia.

Among the main suppliers, Peru, with a CAGR of +0.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review.
