Plantain Price in Singapore (CIF) - 2022

The average plantain import price stood at $209 per ton in 2022, reducing by -17.2% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 23%. The import price peaked at $1,446 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Thailand ($781 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($115 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (-3.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Plantain Price in Singapore (FOB) - 2022

The average plantain export price stood at $4,278 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 956% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw significant growth. The export price peaked at $6,049 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($22,396 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia stood at $332 per ton.

From 2014 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Oman (-2.7%).

Plantain Imports in Singapore

In 2022, plantain imports into Singapore expanded sharply to 319 tons, increasing by 6.4% against the previous year's figure. In general, imports saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 91% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, plantain imports contracted to $67K in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 79%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $76K, and then reduced in the following year.
