Overall, the global banana consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +X% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global banana consumption reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Global Bananas Consumption
With nearly X thousand tonnes, India became the world’s leading banana consuming country, making up X% of global consumption. The other major consumers were China (X thousand tonnes) and the Philippines (X thousand tonnes), with a share of X% and X%, respectively. Moreover, banana consumption in India surpassed the figures recorded by China twofold. They were followed by Indonesia with a X% of global consumption share and Brazil with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of banana consumption in India stood at +X%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: China (+X% per year) and the Philippines (+X% per year).
The highest levels of banana per capita consumption was registered in the Philippines (X kg/year), followed by Brazil (X kg/year), Indonesia (X kg/year), India (X kg/year) and China (X kg/year), while the average per capita consumption of banana was estimated at X kg/year in 2015.
In China, per capita banana consumption has grown noticably (+X% per year) in recent years. In 2015, China per capita consumption reached X kg/year as compared with X kg/year in 2007.
