Peach and Nectarine Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2022

The average peach and nectarine export price stood at $1,843 per ton in 2022, which is down by -1.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 19%. The export price peaked at $2,037 per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Saudi Arabia ($2,235 per ton), while the average price for exports to Swaziland ($531 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Botswana (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Peach and Nectarine Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average peach and nectarine import price amounted to $1,871 per ton, surging by 7.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average import price increased by 27%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $2,110 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Portugal ($1,966 per ton), while the price for Spain amounted to $1,854 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Israel (+18.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Peach and Nectarine Exports in South Africa

For the fourth consecutive year, South Africa recorded growth in overseas shipments of peaches and nectarines, which increased by 4.9% to 32K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +15.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +53.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 32%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, peach and nectarine exports expanded to $58M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +59.5% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
