Global peach and nectarine consumption amounted to 22,696 thousand tonnes in 2015, leveling off at the previous year level. Overall, the global peach and nectarine consumption indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, was relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total consumption volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013, when the output figure increased by +4% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global peach and nectarine consumption reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Global Peaches And Nectarines Consumption

With nearly 12,864 thousand tonnes, China became the world’s leading peach and nectarine consuming country, making up 55% of global consumption. The other major consumers were Italy (1,263 thousand tonnes) and Spain (928 thousand tonnes), with a share of 5% and 4%, respectively. Moreover, peach and nectarine consumption in China surpassed the figures recorded by Italy tenfold. They were followed by the United States with a 4% of global consumption share and Greece with a 3% share.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of peach and nectarine consumption in China stood at +4.5%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Italy (-0.5% per year) and Spain (+3.4% per year).

The highest levels of peach and nectarine per capita consumption was registered in Greece (67.39 kg/year), followed by Italy (21.12 kg/year), Spain (20.13 kg/year), China (9.14 kg/year) and the United States (2.81 kg/year), while the average per capita consumption of peach and nectarine was estimated at 2.29 kg/year in 2015.

In China, per capita peach and nectarine consumption has grown noticably (+3.9% per year) in recent years. In 2015, China per capita consumption reached 67.39 kg/year as compared with 6.71 kg/year in 2007.
