Non-Propelled Vehicle Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

The average non-propelled vehicle import price stood at $36.7 per unit in August 2023, rising by 17% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 94% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $54.8 per unit. From June 2023 to August 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($56.1 per unit), while the price for China ($31.2 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (-0.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Non-Propelled Vehicle Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

The average non-propelled vehicle export price stood at $79 per unit in 2022, jumping by 27% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 40%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $93 per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Tanzania ($79 per unit) and the United States ($79 per unit), while the average price for exports to China ($79 per unit) and Nigeria ($79 per unit) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+27.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Non-Propelled Vehicle Imports in Australia

In 2022, the amount of vehicles not mechanically propelled imported into Australia rose sharply to 2.1M units, growing by 10% against the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-propelled vehicle imports reached $143M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Non-Propelled Vehicle Exports in Australia

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of vehicles not mechanically propelled decreased by -27.4% to 89K units in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 122K units in 2021, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, non-propelled vehicle exports dropped to $7M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 26%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $8.5M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
