Meat Price in Ireland (FOB) - 2022

The average meat export price stood at $5,884 per ton in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($10,553 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($2,342 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Philippines (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Meat Price in Ireland (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average meat import price amounted to $4,568 per ton, surging by 2.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the average import price increased by 43%. The import price peaked at $4,612 per ton in 2020; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Poland ($5,252 per ton), while the price for France ($3,346 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Meat Exports in Ireland

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was growth in shipments abroad of meat, when their volume increased by 4% to 628K tons. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, meat exports rose sharply to $3.7B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Meat Imports in Ireland

The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 85K tons, and then shrank in the following year.

In value terms, meat imports declined to $367M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 15%.
