Lentil Price in Hungary (CIF) - 2023

The average lentil import price stood at $1,628 per ton in June 2023, jumping by 33% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($3,029 per ton), while the price for Canada ($1,151 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lentil Price in Hungary (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average lentil export price amounted to $2,897 per ton, growing by 128% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($3,322 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($2,178 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lentil Imports in Hungary

In 2022, the amount of lentils imported into Hungary surged to 4.3K tons, increasing by 42% compared with the previous year. In general, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -6.2% against 2020 indices.

In value terms, lentil imports soared to $5.6M in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

Lentil Exports in Hungary

For the third consecutive year, Hungary recorded decline in overseas shipments of lentils, which decreased by -13.6% to 153 tons in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a abrupt setback. The smallest decline of -10.9% was in 2021.

In value terms, lentil exports fell to $392K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $460K, and then reduced in the following year.
