Groundnut Oil Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average groundnut oil import price amounted to $1,973 per ton, flattening at the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 an increase of 8.7% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $2,038 per ton in April 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Sudan ($2,124 per ton) and Argentina ($2,020 per ton), while the price for India ($1,931 per ton) and Brazil ($1,941 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sudan (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Groundnut Oil Price in China (FOB) - 2023
The average groundnut oil export price stood at $2,594 per ton in June 2023, approximately mirroring the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 an increase of 12% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $2,741 per ton. From September 2022 to June 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In June 2023, the countries with the highest prices were South Korea ($3,126 per ton) and the United States ($2,980 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($2,255 per ton) and Canada ($2,778 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+0.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Groundnut Oil Imports in China
In 2022, overseas purchases of groundnut oil decreased by -23.4% to 231K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.9% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 38%.
In value terms, groundnut oil imports dropped remarkably to $441M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 92% against the previous year.

Groundnut Oil Exports in China
In 2022, the amount of groundnut oil exported from China rose remarkably to 11K tons, growing by 8.5% against the previous year. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 12K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, groundnut oil exports reached $27M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +12.8% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period.
