Glutamic Acid Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023

The average glutamic acid import price stood at $2,386 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -24.5% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 an increase of 407% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $12,455 per ton. From October 2022 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Indonesia ($3,326 per ton), while the price for China ($1,714 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Glutamic Acid Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022

The average glutamic acid export price stood at $2,754 per ton in 2022, falling by -25% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 27% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $3,671 per ton in 2021, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($3,809 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($2,432 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ireland (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Glutamic Acid Imports in the UK

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of glutamic acid and its salts increased by 23% to 11K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern.

In value terms, glutamic acid imports skyrocketed to $21M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Glutamic Acid Exports in the UK

In 2022, approx. 294 tons of glutamic acid and its salts were exported from the UK; growing by 15% compared with 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, saw a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 63%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 694 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, glutamic acid exports reduced to $811K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 108%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2.2M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
